VeraFora is an independent American journalism outlet founded on a simple premise: facts belong to everyone.
We report on politics, policy, and public life using data as our foundation. Every claim we publish is sourced. Every source is cited. Every methodology is public. Every correction is logged permanently and without qualification. We have no advertisers, no cable deal, and no algorithm to feed. We answer to our readers and to the truth.
The Name
VeraFora comes from two Latin roots. Vera means true, genuine, real. Fora is the plural of forum, the open civic squares of ancient Rome where citizens, regardless of rank or party, gathered to debate the great questions of their day.
The Stoic philosophers believed that truth belonged in the public square, not in the hands of emperors or priests. We agree. That is what we are trying to rebuild.
Why We Started
Confidence in American news media has fallen across the political spectrum. Readers of all backgrounds report feeling that coverage is incomplete, inconsistent, or shaped by forces other than the facts.
VeraFora was built to be a different kind of outlet. Not the loudest voice in the room. The most honest one.
What We Are Not
We are not both-sides journalism. Treating all positions as equally valid regardless of evidence is its own form of dishonesty. When data points clearly in one direction we will say so, and we will show our work.
We are not neutral in the sense of being without values. Our values are transparency, rigor, and the belief that an informed citizenry is the foundation of a functioning democracy. Those are not partisan values. They are the oldest values in the American tradition.
We are not going to tell you what to think. We are going to give you what you need to think for yourself.
How We Work
Every story published on VeraFora goes through the following before it goes live:
Sourcing. Every factual claim requires at least one primary source. We prefer primary documents, public records, and official data over secondary reporting. All sources are disclosed in the story or in the accompanying Source Registry entry.
Verification. Data claims are independently checked before publication. We do not publish findings we cannot reproduce.
Correction policy. When we are wrong, we say so immediately, completely, and publicly. Corrections are logged in our permanent Corrections Register with the original text, the error, and the fix. We do not quietly edit stories without noting the change.
Funding
VeraFora is self-funded by its founder. There are no advertisers, no outside donors, and no funding from political organizations, advocacy groups, or corporations. This independence is intentional. VeraFora does not depend on outside revenue to operate, which means editorial decisions are made without financial pressure from any external party.
The Founder
I am an applied economist by training, specializing in policy evaluation and estimating the real-world effectiveness of public interventions. I have applied that work across a wide range of topics and geographies. The common thread across all of it is the same: an accurate answer, regardless of who commissioned the question or what outcome they hoped for.
VeraFora is an extension of that same commitment, applied to journalism.
